Where to find it in EasyTaxer: Tax → Submissions (or Income → UK Property)

Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play. The video has captions: turn them on with the CC button in the player. You can also watch it on YouTube. The steps below are the text version of this video.

Before you start

  • EasyTaxer is connected to HMRC.
  • Your UK property business is chosen for the tax year on the Income sources page.
  • The quarter's period has ended. A quarter can only be sent once its period is over.
  • The rent you received in the period is recorded as transactions.

Steps: the text version of this video

  1. Record your rent

If you let property in the UK, record the rent you receive as transactions in EasyTaxer. Here are three months' rent for one property.

  2. Open Submissions

Then open Submissions. Your UK property business has its own row of quarters, each with its period and deadline.

  3. Choose the quarter

Select the quarter you want to send, here the second quarter. Each update covers the tax year so far, from the sixth of April.

  4. Check the figures

EasyTaxer shows the rental income and expenses it will report for the period, and the net profit.

  5. Submit to HMRC

Select Submit, then confirm. EasyTaxer sends the update to HMRC and tells you when HMRC has accepted it. Until HMRC confirms it, the quarter shows as submitted, awaiting HMRC confirmation.

What happens next

  • HMRC checks the update. As soon as HMRC accepts it, EasyTaxer confirms it on screen, and the quarter shows as submitted, awaiting HMRC confirmation, until HMRC confirms it.
  • If HMRC rejects the update, EasyTaxer shows you HMRC's own error message, so you know what to change before you send it again.
